Square Enix closes its Studio Istolia and cancels fantasy RPG title “Prelude Rune”

According to the latest updates, that Square Enix has closed down its Studio Istolia and has also cancelled its fantasy RPG title Project Prelude Rune. The company in one of the interviews told the leading news channels about the closure of the studio and also shared some of the inner details behind canceling ts fantasy RPG title Project Prelude Rune.

“Following evaluation of various aspects of Project Prelude Rune, development of the title has been cancelled,” a Square Enix representative said. “Studio Istolia is no longer in operation and we have been taking appropriate steps to assign studio staff to other projects within the Square Enix Group,” the Square Enix representative added.

Square Enix announced the establishment of Studio Istolia and Project Prelude Rune in February 2017. The project was announced under the leadership of Hideo Baba, former Tales of series producer.

The fantasy RPG title was shown at the press conference of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia’s pre-Tokyo Game Show 2018 for the first time. At that time during the press conference, the fantasy RPG title was confirmed to be an Unreal Engine 4-based PlayStation 4 title.

Later in April, Hideo Baba said that in December 2018 he left the Studio Istolia and completely left Square Enix in March 2019.
